Aaron Rodgers Defends Zach Wilson From Character Assassination
Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, responded to the latest claims involving teammate Zach Wilson.
After Wilson was reported by The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, Dianna Russini, and Jeff Howe to be “reluctant” to take the starting position again, Rodgers said on Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show that there was an inside effort to “assassinate someone’s character”

The four-time MVP continued by endorsing Wilson with all of his might and complimenting the 2021 first-round selection’s responsibility.

“I don’t want to speak for him because he’s gonna get a chance this week to speak, and I’m gonna let him speak,” Rodgers stated. “I will tell you that I love the kid. I’ve spent a lot of time with him. I think he’s an amazing young man.”
Jets head coach Robert Saleh attempted to nip things in the bud shortly after the report surfaced. He told reporters Wilson “wouldn’t be here” if he expressed any reservations about playing, adding the young signal-caller “wants the ball” and “believes he’s the best quarterback in the room.”
“He’s always ready to go, and he’s excited for any opportunity he gets.”
Minutes after the #Jets made yet another QB move, WR Garrett Wilson joined The Insiders to talk Zach Wilson, plus Aaron Rodgers and more.

QB Aaron Rodgers responded angrily to rumours that Wilson would not play again this season, which Dianna Russini had brought to light.
“When you use sources to try to assassinate someone’s character like that report does for Zach? I have a real hard time with that,” Rodgers said, criticizing the use of leaks to tarnish Wilson’s character.
He pointed out the implications of such reporting, stating, “You’re basically saying that this kid is quitting on the team and doesn’t want to play and is giving the middle finger to the organization.”
Damn @DMRussini just dropped some massive updated intel on this #Jets, Zach Wilson situation!

Rodgers objected to both the report’s substance and the internal leaks within the company.
“What is your impetus, what is your motivation to try and bury someone like that?” Rodgers questioned, emphasizing the need to address the leaks privately to maintain a winning culture.
Wilson visited Saleh’s office on Monday afternoon, maybe trying to contain his anger, and informed the coach that he wanted to start Sunday against the Houston Texans. Although the coach said he didn’t disagree with Wilson’s desire to play, he decided to hold off on making a QB choice until Wednesday.

Wilson’s tenure in the Big Apple is unlikely to last past this season, even with Rodgers still supporting him; nevertheless, a split won’t be simple given his $11.2 million salary cap impact.
Wilson would gain from a change of environment, and the Jets need to have a stronger insurance policy for Rodgers in light of all that has happened this season.

Why was Jets quarterback Zach Wilson benched?
Zach Wilson of the Jets was benched late; Robert Saleh, who was evasive about the matter, stated that he did it in the hopes that Boyle would ignite the team. Wilson did, however, complete just 7 of 15 passes for 81 yards and a score with an interception, so this wasn’t an isolated effort.
